Neighborhood Description

The home is part of Champlain Valley Cohousing, a community of 26 homes, clustered on 10 of the 126 acres of commonly owned land. Most of this land is preserved under the Vermont Land Trust. It's a diverse community of families, couples and singles without children, and active older folks. The age of residents ranges from 1-70. The community layout is that of an old fashioned neighborhood, with homes arranged around a open green space where children play and residents gather to chat. There are occasional social gatherings such as potlucks and musical events. Children play and ride their bikes freely around the neighborhood, and there is a feeling of safety and security in living in a place where everyone looks out for each other. A soon to be built Common House will provide space for celebrations and meetings, room for children to play, offices and quiet spaces and a dining room and kitchen to cook and share meals. The surrounding land offers hiking trails, a swimming/skating pond, pine groves and a babbling brook to read a book by. Two of the residents own and operate a CSA organic farm on the property, complete with chickens and sheep. Walk down the down the hill to pick up fresh veggies and eggs from the farm. There is also a community garden on the property, and the resident cow, Dawn, supplies many residents with fresh milk.
