3 Bdr 2 Ba, PV(photovoltaic) 2 arrays on Wattsun two-axis trackers, which follow the sun to within +/- 1 degree throughtout the day, both in azimuth and elevation. This ensures maximum collection of solar energy, especially during the summer months when the sun is north of the E/W line- some additional 30-40%+ energy is garnered compared to a fixed rack. Array#1 18 Siemens 75W panels = 1350W@24vDC nominal Array#2 8 Sanyo HIT 215W panels = 1720 W@84vDC nominal. Electrical energy is fed, via two fused combiner boxes, to a master/slave pair of Apollo Solar T80HV charge controllers which match the incoming voltage with the battery voltage and maximise the garnered power. Via a power center, where breakers are situated and other electrical connections are made, the electrical energy is then passed into the battery bank. The battery bank comprises four canisters of HUP Solar One flooded lead-acid batteries= 1910 aHrs of nominal power @24vDC (1530 aHrs actual-the last 20% is never available) which is about 4 days' supply, depending upon power demands in the home. The batter bank is furnished with 2 desulfators (DS1000 battery conditions) that maintain the battery plates in optimum condition. The individual battery cells are also fitted with Water Miser caps to reduce out-gassing and watering requirements.WIND a bergey 1.5KW wind turbine sits atop a 105'tilt-up tower and produces wild, three-phase AC which is rectified down to 24vDC and fed directly to the battery bank. Electrical power for all supplied buildings is provided by 2 Trace (now Xantrex) SW4024 inverters, which draw 24vDC power from the batteries and convert it to 4KW each of 120vAC power (8KW in total) - 4KW of combined 240vAC power. This power is fed into a standard supply panel and then delivered to the various buildings via underground cables. BACK-UP GENERATOR is a Honda EM5000SX which supplies both inverters with 120vAC power. The inverters have integral battery chargers which charge the batteries while the generator simultaneousley supplies the electical load of the home. Charging rates are optimised for the size of the battery bank with this system. SOLAR HOT WATER Domestic hot water is heated by thirty (30) Thermomax evacuated tubes on a rack outside the home, which collect solar energy and convert it into heat, which is fed via a closed-cycle, pumpted loop of water/propylene glycol mix into a heat exchanger in the DHW storage tank inside the home. The SDHW tank is a 120 gallon, stone-lined Vaughn with a single heat exchanger coil from the solar system and 2 5KW electrical heating elements. The glycol loop pumping process is automatically controlled by the Thermomax pumping station (Grundfos pump) which compares several system temperatures from thermocouples within the system. WATER SUPPLY Water comes from our own steel-jacketed well, 207' deep into a limestone substrate, using a 60vDC Solar Sunrise submersible pump installed at 180' depth. The Water is mechanically filtered and then ozonated within an above-ground, 1500 gallon spun-polyethylene storage tank. It is then mechanically filtered again before being pressurised and sent to the home. Water pressure is maintained within the range 30-50 psi, and this can be increased if desired. HEATING/COOLING Cooling is provided by four (4) super-efficient, ductless Fujitsu mini-split inverter conditioners )9RLS/12RLS-SEER 25-26)located through the home. These units are high-efficiency and super-quiet with high degrees of automation. They can aslo be used to heat if required. GAS RANGE Peerless Premier gas range with no glow bar (= no phantom load on the electrical system). REFRIGERATION Conserve Fridge/Freezers (2 of) with seperate compressors for each compartment. These are European designed units, 2'X2' footprint standing 7' tall, with fridge space on top and freezer space below. LAUNDRY Samsung WF419AAW 4.3 cu.ft. high efficiency washing machine WINDOWS Croft low-e, Energy Star-rated throughtout. INSULATION has been maximised for this construction.
