The house is a 3800 sq. ft. Santa Fe style Post and beam strawbale construction and includes a seperate 1800 sq. ft guest house for a total of 5600 sq. ft. , with interior and exterior hand trawled cement and stucco finish. Nine foot ceilings throughout. Italian style ceramic flooring in the kitchen and 3 1/2 baths. This house has 3 master bedrooms with a master bedroom on the first floor and two master bedrooms with connected bathrooms upstairs. There are two full size bedrooms upstairs in addition to the master bedrooms. The Kitchen is large and there is an office off the kitchen.
The guest house is an 1800 sq. ft. ranch with three bedrooms two baths and a seperate 400 sq. ft studio. The main house has 3800 sq ft includeing a 600 sq ft dry basement 200 sq ft of which is a tornado shelter/safe room which was contractor built to cement bridge construction standards, including an 8" thick rebar reinforced ceiling. The straw walls are approximately 2 ft thick which gives it the super insulated R-VALUE of R-55. The ceiling is insulated with fiberglass to a depth of 3 ft for an R-VALUE of R-100. This is what is known as a super insulated home and is extremely energy efficient. All windows are vinyl double pain argon gas filled to protect from ultra-violet damage and have low E tinting for energy efficiency. The house is built on an elevated slab foundation with six" water proof styrofoam insulation. This results in floors that are comfortable to the bare feet on a year round basis. Floor joists are 12" pre-enginered I beam on 12" centers. All water pipes are copper tubing.
The house features a fully automated standby power system with solar energy. The system includes solar electric panels and storage batteries which provide up to 1/3 of the electricity. A Trace sine wave 4048 inverter and a World Power Easy-wire center control and coordinate power usage and distribution to the house. ie. the more solar power available the less grid power used. In the event of grid power loss the solar batteries come on automatically and power the house for up to 12 hours after which if grid power is still not available the Trace inverter will automatically start the Caterpillar Olympian standby 15 Kilowatt generator and take over powering the house while simultaneously recharging the batteries. The generator is propane fueled thus no black smoke. The generator meets EPA residential noise standards and has an ES1 level silencer system rated 10dB(A). Very quiet.
This house and guest house are quiet and secluded on a total of 50 acres. located on one of the highest hills in Marshall Cty. at an elevation of 1280 ft. Just 10 miles outside of Lewisburg TN.
