Ductless Heat Pump Ductless heat pumps come with an outdoor compressor/condenser and one to four indoor air handlers. Indoor units are installed on walls or ceilings (or sometimes hidden behind them) and refrigerant circulates through tubing that connects the indoor and outdoor units. Ductless heat pumps, or mini/multi split heat pumps, are an increasingly popular alternative to radiator or baseboard heating, as well as replacement for window units for cooling. No duct work is needed. Instead, a head unit, or multiple head units, are mounted on an interior wall or ceiling, with an accompanying unit outside. The outside unit extracts heat from the air, even when it’s cold. Refrigerant carries the heat directly to the head(s) inside, which then delivers heated air to occupied space. In warmer months, the system works in reverse for quiet, efficient air conditioning. These units are practical for single-room additions as well as for entire homes. Homes with multiple units can easily be zoned to meet individual comfort needs in each room. In addition to being energy efficient, mini splits avoid the energy losses associated with ductwork, which can account for more than 30 percent of a home’s energy use for space conditioning. ENERGY STAR certified ductless heat pumps are an energy-efficient, environmentally-friendly way to keep your home comfortable without the trouble or expense of adding ductwork Panasonic Energy Recovery Ventilator (ERV) The ERV (above the stairwell) does everything an HRV system does, while also controlling the humidity exchange. This solution will affect heating and cooling costs and energy savings benefits. Green building trends promote healthy homes through balanced ventilation solutions. That’s why versatile ERV systems replace stale air with the optimal supply of fresh air throughout the day. Discover ERV benefits: Controlled and balanced humidity that achieves whole home comfort Ideal for climates with seasonal changes between hot and cold temperatures Does not require a drain line, allowing for an easier installation than an HRV solution Energy savings that will affect the cost of heating and cooling
