What makes your home a Green or Healthy Home?

Recycled tires and aluminum cans used in construction. Passive solar heat through south facing windows.

Property Description

OR MAKE A CASH OFFER!! FINISH this tire house (design similar to an Earthship) TO SUIT YOUR NEEDS AND DESIRES. Located on five acres in rural New Mexico, 35 miles from Albuquerque, this home is approx. 1500 square feet with an open floor plan. Two U's with an arched doorway between, front greenhouse, raised dining room with recycled brick floor and skylight. Kitchen has recycled tile floor, LR/BR area is all "flagstone" flooring with a second skylight, and one free-form decorative can wall. Pellet heat (not working, may only need cleaning, or estimated $200 repairs). Eight windows (4x8') on south side supply plenty of natural light and passive heat in the winter. Heating costs for one year were approx. $100. Walls are tires with stucco/drywall finish. Ceilings are unfinished except for the DR. Propane kitchen stove and local electric. There is no bathroom and no interior plumbing. An above-ground 1600 gallon water tank is plumbed into the house. Our plans included a septic system (~$2500); surface-mounted plumbing; full, but small bathroom (there is a bathroom sink); two on-demand water heaters, one in kitchen and one in bathroom. A third "U" has tire walls already up, waiting completion. This would add ~700 sf of living space (or make a great garden area). Walls are also in place for a covered carport. There are two out-buildings - two smaller tire sheds, one intended as a shop, and one for storage. Enjoy clear cool nights and starry skies in the clear mountain air. This was the home of our dreams when we started it, nearly 15 years ago. We are simply unable, physically, to finish it now and want to give someone else a chance to enjoy it. Finished house limited only by your imagination! Yes, it is unfinished - yes, it is completely liveable, but certainly nothing fancy. Let your creative juices flow!!
