Property Description

Hour south of Santa Fe and 20 minutes East of Albuquerque. Visit www.edgewood-nm.gov for city information. A very unique, solar adobe home is available in Edgewood, New Mexico, where there is about 275 days per year of sunshine. The humidity is low due to an elevation of over 6,000 ft. Rain is about 10 inches a year, and snow is about 20 inches per year. The skies are so clear that you can see thousands of stars almost every night of the year. You can also step outside and smell the pinon, juniper, and sage that is common in the area. The house has a ton of character and needs someone who would like to complete the finishing touches (some things not finished—such as floors which are concrete) on a house that was designed and built by the owner over the past 30 years. Other items needing immediate attention are the back roof and upper windows. The house was built with the back curved wall being built into the hillside (for extra insulation.) There is also an air-lock between the back wall and inner wall for extra insulation. The square footage about 2,000 with two bathrooms, three bedrooms, a dining room, a hobby room and a front area (for plants) that runs the length of the house. A house build of adobes (mud bricks widely used in the Southwest) stores heat in the winter days, when the windows allow for the sun to heat the bricks, and releases it at night. In the summer, the design of the windows do not allow the sun to shine on the adobe, so the interior remains cool. Upper windows usually vent to release rising heat. The construction method also used massive timber beams milled in Northern NM. Some pictures are posted and more can be emailed if interested. The house has a pellet stove for primary heat in winter and a woodburning stove too. The electric is a regional co-op, and the water is a community company. The house has a septic system. Along with the house, there is a garage for a car, a garage (with a concrete ramp) for a motorcycle, a large covered carport area, two storage sheds, and a pen/coop area that was used for chickens in the past. The five acres are fenced, and the drive from a main paved road is also paved. The front area has about 30 very large pine trees for a privacy break. The area is zoned for large animals, so you can have that horse you’ve always wanted. Owner financing is possible with down payment. Please call (505) 401-8192 after August 26 for viewing and details. .
