What makes your home a Green or Healthy Home?
This house and property have been free of fragrance and chemical toxins for over two years . The previous owner used some regular cleaning products and essential oils but the house was mostly devoid of fragrances, pesticides, etc. when we purchased the home.
Both current owners are extremely sensitive to chemical toxins and are very careful to keep the home as safe as possible. Because of the many acres of vacant land around the home, windows have been kept open much of the year and the interior air is normally fresh and dry.
Our clothes are always aired out on our clothes line after a visit to town or other contact with fragrances.
The floors are tile and the countertops are either tile or granite. There is no carpeting except some area rugs. The rugs are a natural material called sisal.
Although the home has a fireplace and evaporative cooler, neither has ever been used by us.
The furniture is mostly solid wood with an "AMF HardCoat" finish.Property Description
Our home is at the back of a small & peaceful subdivision of just 20 homes sitting at the base of South Mountain about 20 miles east of Albuquerque, New Mexico. All lots in the development are approximately 2.5 acres. The prevailing winds come from the west over many acres of wide-open public land. To the north we have 160 acres of undeveloped land and to our immediate east is an undeveloped 2 1/2 acre lot. At an elevation of 6850 feet, the summers are generally mild and night time temperatures are normally low enough to cool the house without the need for air conditioning. In winter, the snow rarely lingers for more than a few days and daytime weather is often sunny and mild.
The house itself has been fragrance free for several years and no toxic chemicals of any kind have been used in the house or anywhere on the property. The main portion of the house is just under 2100 sq ft and is adjoined by a spacious three car garage. The third bay of the garage has been well-insulated and converted to a partially completed office area of nearly 300 sq ft with a walk-in closet. There is also a 1000 sq ft workshop with attic storage and a pull-down stairway. It was built to match the house in appearance - a metal roof and stucco exterior. It is currently being used as a woodworking shop complete with dust collection ducts.
An ample portion of the back yard has been fenced to provide a play area for our dog.
The house is 4 years old.
Neighborhood Description
Buena Vista is a community of about 20 homes on 2.5 acre lots. It is located about 20 miles east of Albuquerque on the east side of Sandia Mountain. It sits at the base of South Mountain a few miles north of Interstate 40 and Historic Route 66. Several neighbors have horses.
We are about 50 miles from Santa Fe.
There are several small "Towns" between 9 and 14 miles from our home where we can purchase most of our goods and services. Albuquerque is just a few miles farther.Market Area
Albuquerque is by far the largest city in New Mexico and has every convenience. It is an easy city to get around and we like it better than the smaller city of Santa Fe where we lived for several years.Location of Home or Land
