This home has everything a green homestead needs to live a self-sufficient off grid life secluded in an environmentally protected Land Trust Community surrounded by a 1,000 acre forest above the Ozark National Scenic Riverways protected Jack's Fork River. The 2-bedroom house features large bedrooms with easily accessible living-loft space making it more like four bedrooms and one huge loft above the living room. Basically, there is a loft in each room. There is a huge living/dining room, with wood-fired radiant heat floors throughout (stove separate from living space). Very large livable kitchen features on-demand water heater, beautiful bay window and large wall of sliding glass doors joining a summer kitchen/screen porch room with interchangeable windows for winter use and chimney hook-up for woodstove. Under the porch room lies a 168 sq. ft. full sized basement/storm shelter that houses 2 pressure tanks, inverter, and Deep Cycle battery bank (8 Trojan batteries just replaced) The washer and dryer are also in the room as well as some heavy duty storage shelves. Next to the main house is a 21 foot diameter custom Nesting Bird Yurt erected atop a tongue and groove pine floor with a large 380sq. ft cedar deck and woodstove for heat. A new Hunter ceiling fan with lights was just installed. This beautiful space makes for a perfect guest house, studio or office space and is hooked to the power system. The bathhouse is separate and contains a utility sink, brand new claw foot tub and shower, composting toilet and water heater. The homestead also includes an 8 x12 ft. storage shed that is used for a chicken coop and a 10 x 12 ft. shed housing an Onan generator that backs up the system as needed with space to house an ATV or garden supplies. There is also a brand new garage that is 12 ft. by 32 ft. at least one acres around the home is fenced with 8 ft. commercial grade chain link fencing to keep the critters out. Living room and kitchen have brand new ceramic tile flooring and the kitchen has new counter top and sink/faucet. All of the outside decks have been sealed. You can hike right out the back yard to the "wishing pool" to a spring fed pool of water, take a hike to the Jack's Fork River or just enjoy the Garden of Eden feel of your back yard deck. There are several garden beds for planting veggies and two small raised areas where I grow herbs.
The forest is simply magical in the Spring time as thousands of Dogwoods, Redbuds and daffodils bloom. Wild Blackberries grow all along the roads in the forest and the cherished Morels, chanterelles' and Chicken of the woods mushrooms can be hunted at different times during the spring and summer months. There are several maintained trails throughout the woods that lead down to the Jack's forks river and year round flowing creeks.
In addition to the magnificent 10 acre property nestled in a dogwood and native paw paw grove surrounded by 100 year old white oaks, black and scarlet oaks, hickory, and pine forest, parcel owners also own 500 acres of protected 'common land' jointly with all members of GFA (Greenwood Forest Association) and have full access to enjoy trails and natural wonders that lie in the magical lands, caves, and streams directly adjoining the protected Ozark National Scenic Riverways Jack's Fork River!!!
There are currently 7 families that live in the forest full time and a few who visit throughout the year.
Mountain View, MO is located through the woods and over the Jack's Fork River 9 miles to town and offers everything a small bustling town requires - shops/restaurants/motels/movie theater etc. Summersville is 9 miles in the opposite direction and is a very quaint town with a school, store and post office. West Plains is the largest town around (40 minute drive and offers more shopping/supplies/entertainment). Springfield, MO is about 100 miles away and is the home to Missouri State Univ.
Summersville School District is a small quality school district graduating roughly 20 students per year. My son had 12 in his Kindergarden classroom and I was incredibly pleased with the quality education that he received. Sports programs are emphasized in this rural area as are various outdoor recreational activities.
Greenwood Forest Land Trust Community lies within 1,000 acres of protected forest managed for Old Growth adjacent to the Ozark National Scenic Riverways protected Jack's Fork River in a very remote location supremely private and quiet eco-conscious community of like-minded allies - neighbors who live to care for the forest and preserve its naturally pure systems. It is a VERY SPECIAL PARADISE that has been nurtured by the residents for over 50 years with continued stewardship of its members.
