Be part of a 1,100 acre environmental community of like-minded folks dedicated to preserving the forest and living a healthy life. Forty percent of the community's acreage is in private tracts and the rest is held in common by Greenwood Forest members. It's like having a 660 acre backyard! What's more, Greenwood Forest shares its southern boundary with the Jack's Fork National Scenic River, a stunning riverway rife with landscapes of breathtaking caves, steep bluffs, and some of the finest springs in the world.
The river is a 25 minute walk from our property. It provides a myriad of recreational activities for the nature lover. The majestic view of Jam Up Cave (only accessible from land through Greenwood) is the introduction to a true geological wonderland. Floating and exploring the river will provide many pleasant experiences for children and adults.
Our 20 acre property is located at the end of a private lane off of Bear Ridge Rd and it's totally private. You'll love how quiet it is! And you are free to choose the level of involvement with the neighbors, although you will be delighted with the eclectic mix of teachers, artisans and writers. Walk or bike to pick up the mail on the 4 miles of private roads inside the community. You'll find it a total contrast to a hectic city life. If you're not a bird watcher you are likely to become one, with more than 400 species to keep track of, from hawks to hummingbirds!
A picturesque 20 minute drive takes you to the town of Mountain View, where you can find everything from a health food store to a Wal-Mart. West Plains is about 40 minutes away and offers ethnic restaurants, cultural activities and shopping. Springfield (Missouri's third largest city) is a comfortable 2 hour drive, served by major airlines.
We began building our house in the summer of 2006 and is now completed. It is essentially a new house. Now we must leave due to unforeseen circumstances. It is our loss. I am a builder/finish carpenter by trade and have taken the utmost care to build this home with the qualities I've learned to appreciate over my 35 years of building. The home reflects my personal aesthetic of simplicity, functionality and economy. If this approach coincides with yours I believe you will enjoy living here as much as we have. Missouri is safe and welcoming, taxes are only $37/year, gasoline is the cheapest in the nation, and the weather is warm and inviting. This is an ideal place to retire, vacation or live year round.
