What makes your home a Green or Healthy Home?
This home is in the process of a green retro-fit. Why build a new home when there are so many houses that already exist? We have done as much as we can to make this house efficient- sealing the basement from air leaks, adding wood heat, changing appliances to energy star. The one last thing that you would need to do is to get blown-in insulation throughout the house. As this house is over 100 years old, it has very little insulation currently. You pick the material, and there are several companies in the area with the expertise to get the job done. We can even recommend someone for you. Once this is completed we are confident that the annual utilities would more that half themselves, and you will be nice and cozy all year long! We have only cleaned with green non-toxic cleaners and added energy efficient upgrades when possible (see above).Property Description
Grow all of your own food in your backyard! This is a 3 bedroom farmhouse with a full kitchen, laundry room, pantry and attached dining room. There is a brand new ultra-efficient quadra-fire woodstove in the dining room that heats the downstairs. There is a matching woodstove in the living room that heats the upstairs. There is a full porch covering the entire front of the house to sit and relax to watch the deer crossing the field and listen to the peepers at night. The front of the house is also fenced in for privacy and safety from the road. The road is paved, but receives only minimal traffic, mostly in the morning and early evening, and is maintained by the city of Belfast. The house has been painted with Non-VOC paint that also seals out VOCs from previous paints. There is a 100% wool carpet installed in the master bedroom and another bedroom, newer cork floors in the living room, bamboo floors in 3 other rooms. The upstairs hallway, staircase, and two rooms have original maple flooring that is in great condition. The master bedroom has a newly remodeled attached bath with a cast iron claw foot tub, glass shower, and dual sinks with granite top. The master closet is enormous- this house is not short on storage! Each bedroom has a walk-in closet. The home office space downstairs has its own entry off of the porch and an attached 3/4 bathroom that also joins up with the kitchen. (This could also be an in-law suite!) There is a built in desk with filing cabinets next to the kitchen. The back deck is large enough for a table and chairs for 6-8 that overlook the pond, playground, chicken coop, fenced organic garden, and bountiful apple trees (5 total). The chicken coop can house up to 25 birds with a partitioned storage area for food and 5 nesting boxes. There is also a fire pit on the property that has a separate built-in cooking area. The kitchen is fully equipped with stainless steel energy star appliances and the newer HE front loading washer and dryer will come with the house. The garage has built in shelves, automatic opening, side double door entry, and an oversized extension that is currently being used as a workshop. There is a pellet stove in this area to provide warmth in the winter months. There is also a woodshed along the north wall of the garage, partitioned half for wood and garbage storage and half for garden tool/tractor storage. This is a great small town homestead house with lots of potential for a green lifestyle!
