This is a beautiful and completely healthy custom-built green home with style and full of light, taking advantage of its passive solar design. Solar panels on the roof and an artful front porch set on almost three acres in a beautiful rural setting in Maine. Fifteen minutes from the beach. The ceilings on the first floor are 10' high; the ceiling in the Master Bedroom is a 14' cathedral. Naturally oiled woodwork throughout house, stylish ceiling fans everywhere, stainless steel appliances in kitchen; EnergyStar washer/dryer included. Living room is large Great Room with beautiful view through large expanse of windows and French doors leading to back deck. The house is so well-insulated that it stays 50 degrees in the dead of winter with no heat on; three wall heaters on each of the three levels (there is a full basement) and a backup in-wall propane heater to make the house toasty warm in winter. Slate floors throughout first floor act as a heat sink. Upstairs floors are locally harvested, oil-finished, wide-plank pine. Also, there is a built-in sound system throughout the house. There is a whole-house heat/air exchanger; a whole house custom-designed water filtration system.
Neighborhood Description
This is a rural setting in a tiny town (Alna, ME) with only one house viewable from indoors, where our wonderful neighbors live in their own handsome, custom-built house. Our house is perfectly quiet inside and out, wonderfully free of traffic sounds, and sometimes visited by deer and wild turkeys from the woods that border the house. The house is sited on a circular driveway and private road off of W. Alna Rd., a rolling country road dotted with horses and small houses; it is 5 miles from the qMarket Area
The closest town to rural Alna is Wiscasset (see above)on Rt. 1; our house is about a 40 min. drive to Bath, the closest town of any size. There is also an alpaca farm on nearby Rt. 218.School District
There is a school in the town; not sure what level.Community
