This house\\\'s walls are solid-pour concrete eWalls with 2\\\" of closed-cell foam, to provide extreme durability (hurricane rated to over 250MPH winds), heat and noise insulation, and bug control. The windows are tinted impact resistant, and all south and west facing windows have an additional IR blocking tint. There is a reflective metal roof, with 8\\\" of icynene insulation on its underside, which provide a cool insulated attic for the HVAC ductwork. There are two 18 SEER AC units installed. 90% of the hot water is met through a solar hot water heater, and a 4.08KW PV system provides 30%-50% of the household\\\'s electrical needs (depending on owner\\\'s usage pattern).
Our environmental control system shows you on a wall-mounted touch-screen how green you and your home is in real-time. Dials display how much electricity your house is using and how much electricity the PV system is generating, as well as how hot the water in your water tank is versus the water currently being heated up by the solar collector. Water usage is tracked, so you can see how many gallons of water were used today, yesterday; what this monthly average is compared to last months. Sensors in all the doors and windows will warn you if they are left open too long with the AC on (not to mention good integration into our security system). One page contains your home\\\'s floor plan, and shows which lights and ceiling fans are on, and which doors and windows are open (great to know before going to bed), etc.
