What makes your home a Green or Healthy Home?
We started with the intention of building a passive solar home, with textbook solar exposure, one that had large window expanse to the south, and minimal northerly window exposure. We realized that most heat loss is through the roof, so we installed additional insulation in the ceiling of the attic, making sure that ventilation was sufficient through the use of both ridge vents and gable vents. Then, we also added a sunroom, which captures radiant heat and diffuses it to the entire house. Then we added an active solar, grid-tied, photovoltaic system, with 30 year German Mage modules, to take care of our electrical needs. Finally, we added an over sized, German-made Schuco solar hot water system that would take care of not only domestic hot water requirements, but we also added a German made Buderus radiant heater that took advantage of excess hot water to provide radiant heat for the house. An energy audit was done on this house 3 years ago, and found that the house had a very favorable energy efficiency rating.Property Description
Imagine a house where you would average under $30 per month for electricity. This energy efficient, passive solar colonial with Andersen energy efficient windows, solar electric, solar hot water, and solar space heating systems will dramatically reduce your yearly energy consumption.
Solar electric is 100% efficient. When connected to the grid, every watt of electricity that your system generates in excess of your home usage is sold back to the utility and credited to your account at full retail rates. Not a single watt is lost. Most solar electric systems are dead in the water when the grid goes down. Not this one. We have battery backup, which allows for continuous operation during any power outage. This is the closest you will find to complete independence from the grid.
And the solar hot water/space heating system ensures that your home heating oil usage is going to be significantly reduced as well. This house is oriented 180 degrees true south, with maximum window orientation to the south, and minimal to the north---- it was designed and planned as an energy efficient house from the very start.
House has a steep pitch roof (12/12) with a very large, fully insulated walk-up attic that provides enormous storage capacity. The sunroom captures radiant heat during sunny winter days, which heats the main living areas of the house. Very spacious, fully finished bonus room above the warm and fully insulated three car garage .The three car garage has a ten-foot ceiling, which allows you to easily hang bicycles, kayaks, or anything else with ample headroom to spare. Zero maintenance premium vinyl siding, and premium architectural shingle roof. There are also two outdoor storage sheds with premium vinyl siding. The house features a large bedroom with bath on the main level, especially helpful for people who have limited mobility.
The property has an abundance of nature trails, wildlife, and a brook passing through the length of the land. Very peaceful and quiet, bucolic area at the end of a cul-de-sac, with a great deal of privacy. If you enjoy looking at the stars, the area offers exceptionally clear, dark skies, as well as very clean, healthy air. It is truly a safe and ideal place to raise a family. The very end of a cul-de-sac, in a remote quadrant of a small, quaint town. Totally off the beaten path.
In short, if you are seeking a beautiful scenic area with peace and quiet, an extremely low crime rate, remarkable energy efficiency, and a great deal of usable space to store all of your things, you have found the right place.Neighborhood Description
