Neighborhood Description

Rocky Corner Cohousing is its own neighborhood. There are 30 units of semi-attached homes planned, clustered together in groups of five to leave wide areas of open space on our 33 acres. The area around Rocky Corner includes single family homes, farms, country roads, hiking/bridle/skiing trails. Small businesses within walking distance include car and tractor repair, a veterinarian, restaurants and schools.

Market Area

Rocky Corner cohousing lies in the small rural town of Bethany. It is only 5 miles from New Haven, the center of Yale University and other colleges. New Haven is known for its vibrant arts and music scene. World renowned theaters include Long Wharf and Yale Rep. There are restaurants of all ethnicities. The International Arts and Ideas Festival occurs every June. The New Haven green is active in the summer months with free concerts. Elm City Shakespeare also has free outdoor stage shows.

School District

The town of Bethany has its own elementary school and is in a regional school district with the towns of Orange and Woodbridge called Amity. The Amity system includes middle and high school. Both the Bethany elementary and the Amity school systems are award winning and are considered one of the top public school systems in Connecticut. Private schools and magnet schools are prevalent in the area. These include: Montessori, Waldorf and magnet high schools centered on the arts and sciences.

Community

Bethany is the smallest town in New Haven county just 5 miles north of the vibrant city of New Haven. The population is about 5500. Town government is run by three selectmen using town meetings for important town decisions like the annual budget. Bethany has an active Clean Energy Task Force that is working on the Sustainable CT initiative. There is a town library and senior center along with a volunteer fire and rescue department. State police barracks in Bethany provides services to the town.
