What makes your home a Green or Healthy Home?
The exterior walls are 14 inches thick, which allows it to be well insulated with formaldahyde-free fibre-glass insulation. The toilets are low flow and the shower valves are also low flow (Grohe). The house heats well just using the log burner at the centre with a small amount of space heating. It cools quite decently on all but the hottest days if the windows are used to create cross drafts. The central shaft has vents which allow hot air to escape in the summer but can be shut in the winter to keep warmth in. The eaves are angled to allow winter sun to warm the house (passive solar heating) but to keep the sun from penetrating when it is higher in the sky during the summer. The windows and French doors are double glazed. The mini splits (electric heating/cooling) are Greer Sapphire 38s, which means the SEER rating is 38. They are definitely Energy Star Rated. The house has always been treated with care. Only biodegradable cleaners and other products have been used in it. No pesticides in any products and low VOC paints from its inception. The septic tank has only had biodegradable cleaning products inserted in it ever.Property Description
