This project was inspired from European and developing projects where the key goal is to "take control of your life", and live beautifully with less, without compromising quality of life. The project has been conceived to make green living pleasant and rewarding, following the very highest standards of ecological construction: LEED Platinum, Novoclimat, EnergyStar, and Carbon Neutral, inspired from the likes of William McDonnough and Bill Dunster (BedZed), and the hundreds of pionneers in self-sufficient, autonomous housing.Property Description
The Productive House is built to facilitate urban ecological living.
The hosue joins beauty with ecological function around three goals: (1) year-round food production; (2) reduced ecological footprint (one-planet living), and (3) alternative transportation.
The Productive House has year-round greenhouses and sun-spaces that serve as buffers against extreme temperatures.
Simulations of the house's energy performance predict 60-80% reduction of the energy bill, using geothermal, passive and active solar methods (water heaters and photovoltaic panels).
Also special emphasis has been placed on common areas: fruit orchards, kitchen and herb gardens, a greenhouse, a sauna, a common laundry facility, an artisan bakery, a design studio and an exercise room.
This is about eco-facilitated, turn-key urban living.
