What makes your home a Green or Healthy Home?
We get our power from solar and water. The stream that we use also supplies our domestic water, which is filtered and run though a UV light system. Our organic gardens and compost system supplies much of our food. A productive flock of chickens ensure that we have the freshest and healthiest of eggs. We renovated the house and manage the property in a firesafe manner.Property Description
In our renovation, we preserved as much of the original house as we could. We had to replace the cedar foundation and the shake shingle siding and roof. We chose Galvalume for the roof and Hardiplank for the siding. Most of the original cedar plank walls in the great room were left intact. We converted the attic into the master bedroom. Flooring includes bamboo, wood and porcelain tile. A huge RSF Energy wood stove comfortably heats the house, with electric baseboards for back-up. We have satellite TV and computer hook-ups. Although our energy system easily meets our needs, the power grid is now nearby. A diesel generator backs up our system. There are overhead fans in nearly all rooms, but they are rarely needed. We've just built a greenhouse with storage area, plus a cedar dock on one of the ponds. The stove, refrigerator, washer and dryer come with the property.
