What makes your home a Green or Healthy Home?

This passive solar, maximum R-Value Insulated Concrete Form  (ICF) home requires very little energy to maintain full comfort year-round. South-facing design allows sunlight to heat the home in winter. Roof overhangs stop the sun from hitting windows and walls during summer, and windows provide night-time cooling to maintain daytime cool temperatures in the house. White 40-year metal roof reflects heat out in the summer, minimizing heat gain upstairs. Inside the roof insulation is 10 inch expanded foam for heat stabilization summer and winter. No blowing air from a furnace or A/C, which also means next to no energy usage for temperature control. Oversized 6 KW active solar electric system with 4 KW battery storage means future electric bills will be the minimum connection fee only, (yes grid connected for all 240 appliances if you need extra power). Wood-burning stove and evaporative cooler are available for supplemental heat or cooling, but are seldom needed. Supplemental heating upstairs is also provided by a hydronic radiant wall system heated by a natural gas water heater. In the summer, cool water from 3000 feet of buried water pipe is circulated in the system for supplemental cooling upstairs.

No herbicides used on this property; this home is the first build and use of the property so the ground is chemical free.

Six (6) raised beds for growing food with timed water systems. (Ask for more pictures.) Last year one 30 foot raised bed yielded 200 Lbs. of sweet potatoes.

Fruit trees in a fully fenced back yard to protect from deer include three (3) peach; two (2) purple plum trees, two (2) Santa Rosa plum, one (1) Italian prune; two (2) pear trees; two (2) apple trees; one (1) cherry tree; two (2) apricot trees; one (1) jujube; productive blackberry row; ground cherry and four (4) grape vines produce fruit much of the summer.

Back yard is fully fenced.

No-till garden produces a large crop of vegetables.

Front yard includes medicinal and decorative flowers and herbs as well as an English Walnut tree and a Black Walnut tree.  Medicinal herbs in abundance include Mullein, Yarrow, Comfrey, Echinacea, Sage, Peppermint, Spearmint, Catnip, Marshmallow, and Plantain.

In-ground 48’X 16’ greenhouse with three (3) large raised beds (180 sq ft) and aboveground 8800-gallon pool to manage temperature, summer and winter.  The massive amount of water to balance the temperature means the greenhouse doesn't freeze in the winter and is just a little warmer than outside in the summer.  Yes you can swim in the pool.
