What makes your home a Green or Healthy Home?
This home was constructed with materials and finishes chosen for their non-toxic properties. There is no plywood in the home except for the roof sheathing which is only in the attic space and fully separate from the home. All wood incorporated into the home is solid pine, fir, alder, or cedar and finished with natural oils. The cabinets were constructed with Wheat Straw board with Alder frames, doors and drawer fronts. The counter tops are 80% crushed recycled glass and seeded with art glass and stones in cement binder. The counter top work was done by a couple of local artists who also make sinks and provide straw bale consulting. The main floor area is reddish earth tone colored concrete. The wood windows were built by Sierra Pacific Windows. They utilize Sustainable Forestry Initiative lumber in the production of their windows. The windows are Sedona push out model (awning style) where the screens are hinged and on the inside of the home. Interior doors are knotty pine arch top style. All door hardware is by Emtek. All insulation is “Ultra Touch” natural cotton fiber insulation. Wood Stove is a soap stone stove produced by Hearthstone.
