This home has had 2 energy audits. The first was in 2007 and insulation and caulking were done. A 2.7 kW wind turbine was added in 2010. In 2014 another audit was done and more insulation was added along with switching to all electric appliances, furnace and water heater prior to adding solar PV. A 5.6 kW All Earth Solar PV tracker was installed in 2014. Our utility cost at this time is for purchasing firewood and varies with purchase. Our renewables production for Jan 2015 to Dec 2015 was 8574 kWh and the usage was 7220 kWh. There is a whole house water filtration system and cable/internet.

Neighborhood Description

The town of Burlington has a population of about 1100. Some of the original farms are still being worked as well as old farms that have been brought back by new owners. There are a couple of farms that provide food to local farmers' markets and area stores, raising produce, eggs, meat and poultry. A small and growing Amish community has settled in the past few years providing organic and nonorganic food, small businesses, logging and sawmills.

Market Area

The Chobani Yogurt plant is about 10 miles away employing many local residents as does the New York Central Mutual Insurance Company in Edmeston. Pathfinder Village, a residence for people with Down Syndrome is 2 miles away. Bassett Health Care system has a clinic in Edmeston and a hospital in Cooperstown, NY, 15 miles away. Oneonta and Utica are small cities each about 30 miles away with many stores and several colleges and restaurants. Airports are located in Syracuse and Albany.

School District

The Edmeston Central School District is 4 miles away. It is a pre k-12 public school that serves the Edmeston and Burlington areas. Pathfinder Village is a residence and school for people of all ages with Down Syndrome. Springbrook is an area-wide school for people with disabilities. The local library is in Edmeston and part of a larger county-wide system. Oneonta and Utica offer several colleges and universities including the SUNY Cooperstown Museum Graduate Program.

The town of Burlington is comprised of West Burlington, Burlington Flats and Burlington Green. There are monthly Town Board and Planning Board Meetings.
