A 950 ft. Nest style Earthship designed and built by Mike Reynolds of Solar Survival in Taos, New Mexico. The house is situated on 5 fenced acres, in the Piedre Lumbre Estates on the Abiquiu Reservoir in Northern New Mexico. It is fully self-sufficient using an earth berm, fireplace, solar gain and a natural ventilation system to keep the house at a comfortable 70 degrees all year long. The refrigerator and hot water heater are fueled by propane. The electricity is solar. It employs a filtered rainwater catchment system providing pure, clean water. That water is then reused twice, first in the indoor planter and then outdoors for watering vegetation. It has flagstone floors, a kiva fireplace and rounded shelves and corners. The rooms are split up as follows: bedroom w/fireplace, living room and kitchen together with planter, a pantry, large closet/small bedroom and bathroom. The shed is located behind the house it’s really big approx. 1250 sq ft. Price recently reduced.

It’s was made with earth and stone and was minimally painted 12 years ago with a low VOC paint. Uses rainwater. It’s self-sufficient and off the grid. It’s far from the city and it’s pollution. It’s easy on the environment leaving an almost invisible carbon footprint. It was made out of mostly recycled materials, bottles, cans, tires, etc.

Neighborhood Description

It is a breathtakingly beautiful neighborhood on wide open plains dotted with Pinon Pine, wild sunflowers and surrounded by rainbow colored cliffs that define the area. The front windows face the Cerro Pedernal, Georgia O’Keefe made this mountain famous with the number of times she painted it. My nearest neighbor is .05 to 1 mile away. The property has a private access road to the lake which is a mile away. Ghost Ranch is located across the lake nestled below those famous rainbow colored cliffs. The Rio Chama flows in and out of the lake it is used by campers, fisherman, rafters and kayakers alike. My house is located off of a well maintained mile long dirt road. I have uninterrupted 360 degree views and each one is beautiful. Many famous artists and writers live in this awe inspiring area. The weather here is mild to moderate in all four seasons

The town of Abiquiu is 20 minutes away it contains a General Store, Gas Station, Post Office, Library and a well known Restaurant and Inn. Espanola is 40 minutes away and has a large variety of goods and services. Santa Fe & Taos are both 1 hour 15 minutes away providing cultural and historical sights and events as well as a large variety or goods and services. Northern New Mexico has many scenic destinations. A few that are within an hour and a half of Abiquiu are: Chama, So.Colorado, the Four Corners, Ghost Ranch, Rio Chama, Rio Grande, Rio Grande Gorge, Taos, Angel Fire, Ojo Caliente Springs, the miracle church in Chimayo, Santa Fe & Madrid.
