What makes your home a Green or Healthy Home?

Built from onsite fir trees and bordered on the south by protected federal lands. Surrounded by the Hiawatha National Forest. Completely off grid. Recently very well insulated with attention to prevent rot and pests; this means less wood burned in the woodstove and the cabin maintains a comfortable temperature in the wintertime.

Property Description

**Recently featured in October on Cabin Porn** For someone who truly wants to get away to hunt or observe nature. There is no vehicular access to this property. Hand pump well. Electricity is provided by gasoline generator. There is a propane heater as well as a woodstove that was installed in 2013. Old Plank Road is an old dirt railroad grade and provides only seasonal access to within a 1/2 mile to the property. Get your muck boots out as you will be walking through the muskeg to get to the cabin. There is a pallet trail leading back to the cabin through the bog as seen in the provided pictures. At the bottom of the listing is a link to the interactive Google map. Per the USDA websoil survey map, the property land type is coded as "58: Dawson, Greenwood and Loxley soils." Predominantly lowland bog/muskeg with the cabin sitting on a sandy, well drained hill. Upper front of the cabin has good south facing exposure. Predominant vegetation on the sandy portion is bracken fern, fir, maple, lowbush blueberry. Within the bog is tamarack, black spruce, pitcher plants and sundew, mosses and cranberry. Link to Google Doc folder with USDA Websoil Survey map, and screen shot of where the cabin is, is here (you'll have to copy and paste): https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B9jGZXgDMPMsTWNkMkUwQXh6NTA&usp=sharing I've tracked many deer here and large sheds have been found on the property. Bears frequent the area, but I haven't seen any personally. This is a great area for ruffed grouse as well as snowshoe hare. Other wildlife seen on property or within a 7 mile radius includes ravens, bald eagles, coyotes, foxes, fishers and red squirrels.

Neighborhood Description

Nearest neighbor is approximately a mile away and resides on her property seasonally with her horses. There are other hunting cabins in the area. It is very private and quiet, only punctuated by distant rifle fire during the autumn hunting season.

Market Area

Closest town is Wetmore Michigan which has groceries and gas. Cabin is approximately 20 miles south of Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore and only a mile or so to the boundaries of the Hiawatha National Forest.

School District

Alger County Schools. I don't have kids. Don't know anything about it. It's the school of nature here
