The land is naturally landscaped with a wide range of native shrubs, trees, meadow, and loads of wild berries and flowers. There is also ample space for organic gardening; the rich soil has never been subjected to any agricultural/industrial chemicals, fertilizers, or sprays.

Each cottage is powered by individual off grid solar electric systems, which are 12 Volt DC. Being the common voltage used in automobiles and boats, 12VDC is easily adaptable to running many portable devices such as CD/DVD Players, Laptop Computers, small DC TVs, etc. Also installed in the systems are inverters which supply standard 115 AC power for refrigerator, washer, power tools and other AC powered devices or appliances.

The larger main house has a large Jotul wood burning stove and is insulated for possible 4 season use. Two of the other cottages have wood burning stoves but are not insulated. Three of the cottages have propane hot water heaters.

This very private property has a long ( about 2500 feet ) private driveway (ROW) from the main road which requires self maintenance in winter, or, depending on amount of snow cover, a least a 4WD motor vehicle for access.

Some cell phones reportedly work from the cottages, but there is also a landline telephone connection at 2 of the cottages with high speed internet access.

Boats or canoes for exploring the lake and dune beach are included with each cottage and are moored close to the shallow shore near the waterfront of each dwelling. The boats are accessed via stairways off elevated waterside decks and picnic areas.

The town of South Lake is at the eastern end of PEI just below East Point. The property is about 2 miles from the general store in Bothwell and it is about a 15-20 minute drive to Souris which has a complete range of facilities...supermarkets, banks, restaurants, etc.

The capital city of Charlottetown and the international airport are about a 1 hour drive from South Lake.
