What makes your home a Green or Healthy Home?
Rammed Earth Development, Inc.(www.rammedearth.com) has been a Tucson pioneer in green construction since the 1980's. As general contractor, we applied to this project our decades of experience designing and constructing energy efficient, fine custom homes. Constructed of insulated concrete masonry walls, this house features Marvin Integrity clad wood windows, gas appliances, and low water landscaping and qualify for Southwest Gas’s Energy Star program. Rain water is channeled to irrigate common area landscaping. The great room and kitchen have antique beam ceilings made of recycled lumber. As the future terminus for Tucson’s Modern Streetcar (currently under construction), this neighborhood is ideal for conservation-minded professionals working downtown or at the University of Arizona.
This is a deliberately high density project, well-suited to the urban infill setting. Retail shops and restaurants within the neighborhood are currently under construction, so residents can reduce their reliance on automobiles. We conserve resources and reduce yard maintenance by maximizing the square footage of the house on the lot. The houses is two storied, with kitchen, great room and master bedroom suite located on the ground floor. In addition, the house is set on a cobble-stoned, landscaped community pedestrian plaza; one of three plazas planned for the development.
We believe that sustainability starts with authentic, durable building materials and timeless architecture that is responsive to people and their daily lives. We view our project as a living work of social sculpture and collaborate with our buyers to integrate their creative vision into the whole.Property Description
The Mercado District houses merge the classic elegance of historic Sonoran architecture with the resource-efficient design imperatives of today. The rowhouse-style front elevations, interior courtyards, wrought iron balconies, cantera window and door surrounds, and rich, integral color stucco and plaster evoke the grace and charm of towns such as Alamos or San Miguel de Allende. Our houses are adjacent, not adjoining; each house has its own separate wall system for sound buffering and insurability. These are not condos but single family homes in the tradition of Tucson’s historic Barrio Viejo rowhouses.
185 S. Avenida del Sembrador is one of the few remaining houses available on the first plaza of the Mercado District of Menlo Park. Rich color-integral plaster and stucco and vibrant interior paint colors reflect Mexican architectural infuence. An open-air atrium and interior courtyard provide private outdoor space while the landscaped community plaza offers opportunities for socializing with neighbors.
Neighborhood Description
With its walking streets, stone-paved community plazas, alley-accessed garages and integration of commercial and residential property, the Mercado District of Menlo Park embraces the New Urbanist philosophy of high density, pedestrian-friendly development. But it does so with a regionally appropriate flair. The Mercado District is being developed by a team of four different local custom home builders lending architectural diversity to the project.Market Area
The Mercado District of Menlo Park is located in Downtown Tucson, one mile from the city center, at the base of Sentinal Peak (“A” Mountain), convenient to Interstate 10, adjacent to Rio Nuevo attractions along the Santa Cruz River.
