What makes your home a Green or Healthy Home?
This log home is constructed from large White Pine logs. Their large diameter and caulking inside and out give the wall a very high R value (30+?). In addition, the thermal mass of the building moderates temperature fluctuations and lowers heating costs. The home does not have air conditioning because it does not need it. The dinning room, living room and each bedroom has a variable speed fan for energy conservation, as well as dimmers. The roof is 2x8 inch construction with 8” of fiberglass insulation and is ridge vented. All the windows are low-e thermo panes by Pella. There is a great deal of thermal gain during the winter and minimum during the summer. The walkout basement is made of wood construction with 8 inch insulated walls.
The heating system is an open loop well source heat pump. This system uses the artesian well. This state of the art heat pump system is very efficient. Estimated heating bill is 700 per winter! The heat pump has a de-super that provides about 70 percent of your hot water needs at no cost. The system zones are controlled by individual programmable thermostats. The heat tubing runs through the basement slab, under floor loops for the first floor, and low temp fan radiators for the second floor. This comfortable, quiet system will save you a great deal of money and is friendly to the environment.
We used natural slate, cork, pine and native hardwoods for the floors. The basement and upper levels of the home are sided in cedar. It is a very natural home and care was used to build with safe products to insure a healthy environment.
